The PRS Group was first founded in Bombay in 1856 by Premchand
Roychand. However, rather than celebrating the sesquicentennial of the Group, the Premchand family commemorated the 100th Death Anniversary of the Group’s founder, who died in 1906 in his 75th year, 50 years after Premchand Roychand founded the firm.
The commemoration focused on a new exhibition, called “Bombay Bonanza”, and was officially opened on Monday, 4 December, 2006, at the Premchand Roychand Gallery of |

the Prince of Wales Museum in Mumbai (now known as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya). This exhibition celebrates the fascinating life and times of Premchand Roychand. Together with other Merchant Princes, his vision & flair transformed Bombay from an Isle of Palms to the City of Gold. The exhibition is a celebration of a generation who gave back generously to their city, returning to society a part of their business gains.
